Meta Connect 2026: New AI and VR Glasses Announced

Meta Connect 2026 introduced new AI and VR glasses, including Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 and Meta VR Glasses.

Meta has unveiled a major new generation of smart glasses at Meta Connect 2026, expanding its wearable lineup with new AI glasses, audio-only smart glasses, and an entirely new category of lightweight VR glasses.

During the keynote, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg presented several new products designed around a common idea: making glasses a more natural way to access AI, entertainment, communication, and spatial computing.

Meta says its expanded lineup will include more than 100 different styles of AI glasses by the end of 2026, spanning Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses.

Here are the major glasses announcements from Connect 2026.

Ray-Ban Meta Audio: Meta’s First Audio-Only Smart Glasses

One of the most notable announcements was Ray-Ban Meta Audio, Meta’s first smart glasses designed specifically around audio and AI without cameras.

Zuckerberg explained that the company wanted to create a new category of glasses built around open-ear audio. Unlike traditional earbuds, the glasses allow users to listen to music, podcasts, make calls, and interact with Meta’s AI assistant while remaining aware of their surroundings.

The glasses are also designed to look and feel like conventional eyewear rather than electronic hardware.

According to Meta, Ray-Ban Meta Audio are its lightest and slimmest AI glasses yet, weighing about 43 grams. They provide up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge, with additional charging available through the included case.

The glasses are available in two new frame styles: Ray-Ban Clubmaster and Ray-Ban Burbank. They also support a wide range of prescription lenses.

Meta’s goal is straightforward: combine the convenience of wireless earbuds and an AI assistant with a pair of glasses that can be worn throughout the day.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 Gets a New Design

Meta also introduced the third generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

The new generation focuses on making the glasses thinner and more comfortable while improving battery life and everyday interaction.

One of the new additions is a customizable action button, designed to give users faster access to Meta AI and other functions.

Meta is also expanding the available frame designs, including new styles such as Aviator and Zena.

The updated design continues Meta’s strategy of making smart glasses look more like conventional eyewear. Rather than creating a visibly technological product, the company is using familiar fashion-oriented designs as the foundation for its AI hardware.

More Meta Glasses Styles

Meta is also expanding its own Meta Glasses collection.

The company announced new collaborations and styles, including a new Ivory colorway for the Meta Glasses by Kylie Jenner collection and a new collaboration with international artist LISA.

The LISA collection includes two designs:

  • Meta Adventurer LISA Edition
  • Meta Capri LISA Edition

Both are compatible with prescription lenses. Meta is also expanding customization options, allowing users in the United States to mix and match frame, lens, and case colors.

This broader range of designs reflects an important part of Meta’s strategy: smart glasses need to function not only as technology but also as everyday fashion accessories.

Meta VR Glasses: A New Approach to Virtual Reality

The biggest hardware surprise of the glasses segment was Meta VR Glasses.

Instead of presenting another traditional VR headset, Zuckerberg introduced a device designed to deliver immersive virtual reality and spatial computing in a glasses-style form factor.

Meta says the glasses weigh approximately 100 grams, roughly the weight of a deck of cards. That’s significantly lighter than traditional VR headsets such as the Meta Quest 3.

The idea is to combine the immersive capabilities associated with VR with a much smaller and more glasses-like device.

A 5K Infinite Display

Meta VR Glasses feature a 5K Infinite Display based on micro-OLED panels.

The display is designed to provide large virtual screens while keeping the physical hardware relatively compact.

This means the device can be used for several different scenarios, including:

  • Watching movies and other entertainment
  • Gaming
  • Working with multiple virtual displays
  • Watching live sports
  • Using spatial computing applications
  • Connecting to other devices and extending their displays

Meta describes the device as capable of becoming a personal cinema, workspace, gaming system, or virtual sports viewing environment.

Turning Any Surface Into a Workspace

One of the more interesting features of Meta VR Glasses is their approach to productivity.

Instead of requiring a physical monitor, the glasses can display virtual screens in the user’s environment.

Meta says users can create multiple virtual displays and interact with them using eye tracking and hand gestures.

The company also says a physical table or desk can become a virtual keyboard and touchpad, allowing users to work without carrying traditional computer peripherals.

This moves the product beyond conventional VR entertainment and toward what Meta calls spatial computing.

Designed for Entertainment

Meta is also positioning the VR Glasses as a major entertainment device.

The company says the glasses will support an extensive collection of video content and will provide access to immersive entertainment experiences.

Meta has also announced partnerships involving services such as Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN, and Tubi.

The device will also support 3D content from services including Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+.

Meta says the VR Glasses will be the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device, potentially allowing users to experience selected films using IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio from home.

A New Way to Watch Live Sports

Sports are another major use case for the Meta VR Glasses.

Meta says it is working with organizations including ESPN, MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC to provide immersive live sports experiences.

The company expects to offer more than 100 immersive live sports events each year.

Instead of watching a traditional television screen, the concept is to create the feeling of having a more immersive or front-row viewing position.

Meta VR Glasses Are Not Coming Immediately

Unlike some of Meta’s other glasses announcements, the Meta VR Glasses are not immediately available.

Meta says the VR Glasses are scheduled to launch in 2027, with a starting price of $1,299.

The product therefore represents a longer-term direction for Meta’s VR hardware rather than another immediate replacement for the Quest lineup.

Meta’s Bigger Vision for Glasses

The different products announced at Connect 2026 reveal a broader strategy.

Meta is no longer treating “smart glasses” as one single category.

Instead, the company is building several types of glasses for different purposes:

Audio glasses focus on music, calls, and AI while remaining lightweight and camera-free.

AI glasses combine cameras, speakers, microphones, and Meta AI in conventional-looking eyewear.

Display glasses add an in-lens display for information and interaction.

VR glasses take the concept further by adding immersive displays and spatial computing capabilities in a much smaller form factor than traditional VR headsets.

Meta says that more than 100 styles of AI glasses will be available across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses by the end of 2026.

What Meta’s New Glasses Mean for the Future of XR

The Connect 2026 announcements show Meta pursuing several different directions at the same time.

The Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses target people who want hands-free audio and AI without cameras. The new Ray-Ban Meta generation continues to develop the company’s existing AI glasses platform. Meanwhile, Meta VR Glasses represent a much more ambitious attempt to shrink immersive computing into something closer to ordinary eyewear.

The distinction is important.

Traditional VR headsets place a significant amount of hardware on the user’s face and are primarily designed for immersive experiences. Meta’s new VR glasses attempt to preserve immersion while dramatically reducing the physical size of the device.

At the same time, Meta’s AI glasses strategy is moving in the opposite direction: making smart functionality increasingly subtle and integrated into everyday eyewear.

If Meta can successfully combine comfortable designs, AI assistance, displays, and spatial computing, glasses could become a much more important computing platform than they are today.

Final Thoughts

Meta Connect 2026 marked a significant expansion of Meta’s glasses strategy.

The company introduced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, updated Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, expanded its Meta Glasses lineup, and revealed the Meta VR Glasses, which bring immersive VR and spatial computing into a roughly 100-gram glasses-style device.

The most ambitious product is undoubtedly Meta VR Glasses, with their 5K display, eye and hand tracking, virtual multi-screen workspace, immersive entertainment features, and planned 2027 launch.

Meanwhile, the audio and AI glasses show that Meta is also focusing on products that people can wear throughout the day.

Rather than betting on one type of wearable, Meta is building an entire ecosystem of glasses — ranging from lightweight audio eyewear to full spatial-computing devices.
